ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
उ॒षा उ॒च्छन्ती॑ समिधा॒ने अ॒ग्ना उ॒द्यन्सूर्य॑ उर्वि॒या ज्योति॑रश्रेत् । दे॒वो नो॒ अत्र॑ सवि॒ता न्वर्थं॒ प्रासा॑वीद्द्वि॒पत्प्र चतु॑ष्पदि॒त्यै ॥ (१)
यह उषा प्रातःकाल अग्नि के प्रज्वलित होने पर अंधकार को हटाती है एवं उदित होते हुए सूर्य के समान प्रभूत प्रकाश फैलाती है. सविता देव हमारे गमन-आगमन व्यवहार के लिए मनुष्य और पशुरूप धन देते हैं. (१)
This usha removes the darkness when the fire ignites in the morning and spreads the light as the rising sun. Savita Dev gives money in the form of human beings and animals for our transiting behavior. (1)

अमि॑नती॒ दैव्या॑नि व्र॒तानि॑ प्रमिन॒ती म॑नु॒ष्या॑ यु॒गानि॑ । ई॒युषी॑णामुप॒मा शश्व॑तीनामायती॒नां प्र॑थ॒मोषा व्य॑द्यौत् ॥ (२)
उषा देव संबंधी व्रतों में बाधा नहीं डालती तथा मनुष्यों का वियोग करती है. यह भूतकाल में होने वाली तथा सदा आने वाली उषाओं के तुल्य है. यह भविष्य में आने वाली उषाओं में प्रथमा बनकर विशेष प्रकाश दे रही है. (२)
Usha does not hinder the fasts related to God and disassociates the human beings. It is equivalent to the ushas that have taken place in the past and always come. It is giving special light by becoming the first among the future usha. (2)
ऋग्वेद (मंडल 1)
ए॒षा दि॒वो दु॑हि॒ता प्रत्य॑दर्शि॒ ज्योति॒र्वसा॑ना सम॒ना पु॒रस्ता॑त् । ऋ॒तस्य॒ पन्था॒मन्वे॑ति सा॒धु प्र॑जान॒तीव॒ न दिशो॑ मिनाति ॥ (३)
यह उषा स्वर्ग की पुत्री है. इसलिए यह प्रकाश रूपी वस्त्र को धारण करती हुई पूर्व दिशा में भली-भांति चलती हुई सभी के सामने प्रकाशित होती है. उषा अपने प्रिय सूर्य का अभिप्राय जानती हुई भी उसके मार्ग पर आगे-आगे चलती है एवं पूर्वादि दिशाओं को कभी समाप्त नहीं करती. (३)
This Usha is the daughter of heaven. Therefore, it is illuminated in front of everyone, wearing a light-like garment, moving well in the east direction. Usha, knowing the meaning of her beloved sun, walks forward on its path and never ends the east direction. (3)

उपो॑ अदर्शि शु॒न्ध्युवो॒ न वक्षो॑ नो॒धा इ॑वा॒विर॑कृत प्रि॒याणि॑ । अ॒द्म॒सन्न स॑स॒तो बो॒धय॑न्ती शश्वत्त॒मागा॒त्पुन॑रे॒युषी॑णाम् ॥ (४)
जिस प्रकार सूर्य अपना रश्मिसमूह रूपी वक्षस्थल प्रकट करते हैं एवं नोधा ऋषि ने जिस प्रकार अपने प्रिय मंत्रसमूह को प्रकट किया था, उसी प्रकार उषा भी स्वयं को सबके समीप प्रकट करती है. उषा गृहिणी के समान सबसे पहले जागकर शेष लोगों को जगाती है एवं प्रातःकाल आने वाली वारवनिताओं में सर्वाधिक सुंदर है. (४)
Just as the Sun reveals its rashmigroup-like chest and just as sage Nodha revealed her beloved group of mantras, Usha also reveals herself close to everyone. Usha wakes up the rest of the people by waking up first like a housewife and is the most beautiful of the morning's horrors. (4)

पूर्वे॒ अर्धे॒ रज॑सो अ॒प्त्यस्य॒ गवां॒ जनि॑त्र्यकृत॒ प्र के॒तुम् । व्यु॑ प्रथते वित॒रं वरी॑य॒ ओभा पृ॒णन्ती॑ पि॒त्रोरु॒पस्था॑ ॥ (५)
उषा विस्तृत आकाश के पूर्व भाग में जन्म लेकर दिशाओं का ज्ञान कराती है. धरती और आकाश उसके पिता हैं. उषा इन दोनों के मध्य में स्थित होकर अपने तेज से अत्यंत विस्तीर्ण रूप से प्रसिद्ध हुई है. (५)
Usha is born in the eastern part of the wide sky and gives knowledge of the directions. The earth and the sky are his Father. Usha has become very widely famous with her sharpness by being located in the middle of these two. (5)

ए॒वेदे॒षा पु॑रु॒तमा॑ दृ॒शे कं नाजा॑मिं॒ न परि॑ वृणक्ति जा॒मिम् । अ॒रे॒पसा॑ त॒न्वा॒३॒॑ शाश॑दाना॒ नार्भा॒दीष॑ते॒ न म॒हो वि॑भा॒ती ॥ (६)
इस प्रकार विस्तार को प्राप्त हुई उषा अपने जाति वाले देवों और विजातीय मानवों सभी को प्राप्त होती है, जिससे वे सुखपूर्वक देख सकें. अपने निर्मल शरीर के कारण स्पष्ट होती हुई उषा छोटे बड़े किसी के पास से नहीं हटती. (६)
In this way, the expansion is achieved by all the gods and the heterogeneous human beings of their jati, so that they can see happily. Because of her pure body, Usha does not move away from anyone small and big. (6)

अ॒भ्रा॒तेव॑ पुं॒स ए॑ति प्रती॒ची ग॑र्ता॒रुगि॑व स॒नये॒ धना॑नाम् । जा॒येव॒ पत्य॑ उश॒ती सु॒वासा॑ उ॒षा ह॒स्रेव॒ नि रि॑णीते॒ अप्सः॑ ॥ (७)
उषा बिना भाई की बहिन के समान पश्चिम की ओर मुख करके चलती है तथा पतिहीना नारी के समान प्रकाश रूप धन प्राप्त करने के लिए आकाश में चढ़ती है. उषा पति को प्रसन्न करने वाली पत्नी के समान सुंदर वस्त्र पहनकर हास्य द्वारा अपने दांतों का प्रदर्शन करती है. (७)
Usha walks facing west like a brother's sister and the husband climbs into the sky to get wealth as a light as a woman. Usha flaunts her teeth with humour wearing beautiful clothes like the wife who pleases her husband. (7)

स्वसा॒ स्वस्रे॒ ज्याय॑स्यै॒ योनि॑मारै॒गपै॑त्यस्याः प्रति॒चक्ष्ये॑व । व्यु॒च्छन्ती॑ र॒श्मिभिः॒ सूर्य॑स्या॒ञ्ज्य॑ङ्क्ते समन॒गा इ॑व॒ व्राः ॥ (८)
निशा रूपी छोटी बहिन उषा रूपी बड़ी बहिन को अपना स्थान देकर चली जाती है. सूर्य की किरणों से अंधकार का नाश करती हुई यह उषा बिजलियों के समान संसार में प्रकाश करती है. (८)
Nisha's younger sister Usha gives her place to the elder sister of Usha and leaves. Destroying darkness by the sun's rays, this Usha shines in the world like lightning. (8)
